Mississauga Martial Arts

girl-kickWe specialize in Taekwondo, a Korean Martial Art very similar to Karate. Taekwondo meaning ‘kick punch art’ is about self-defense training. Contrary to popular belief, learning martial arts isn’t about inflicting violence, but about enhancing confidence so that if a precarious situation arises, you can defend yourself and others. A martial artist will have the strength to walk away instead of engaging in trouble. Learning how to defend yourself with martial arts will give you the confidence necessary to keep bullies and predators away.

My child can’t focus! Will Tae Kwon Do help?

Yes it will. The curriculum for each belt level contains many components. To learn them takes concentration and memorization. In a structured class setting, each child must focus in order to learn.

“A black belt is nothing more than a belt that goes around your waist. Being a black belt is a state of mind and attitude.”
-Rick English

They’re bullying my child at school. What can Taekwondo do for my kid?

Sadly, bullying is inevitable. No mom or dad wants their child to feel scared or down about themselves. Every parent feels frustrated and would love to solve their child’s problems at school. Unfortunately, we must trust in children’s ability to cope and solve their own conflicts. Children will learn, in a safe and friendly atmosphere, how to defend themselves physically, but, more importantly, they’ll gain a truer sense of self-confidence that will allow them to make confident choices and resolve their issues with greater ease.

tournament-pictureMartial arts tournaments

Our school is very active in martial arts tournaments. There’s no obligation to attend or participate in tournaments. However, if your child has a competitive edge and wants to test his Taekwondo abilities, the opportunity is there. Martial arts tournaments aren’t only about winning or losing. They’re about performing in front of large amounts of people, overcoming fear and shyness and, most importantly, losing gracefully. It’s impossible to win all the time. Martial artists learn to respect their opponents, and if they lose, with great sportsmanship, appreciate others’ strengths and realize their own room for improvement.

Mississauga’s elite team

Magnitude also has an Elite Team, which consists of students who are invited by the Head Instructor to participate in extra Taekwondo training and weapon classes. Our Elite Team practices more extreme martial arts (fancy kicks and skills) and improves all techniques for sparring and patterns. They put together routines that they perform at various functions. All Elite Team members actively participate at martial arts tournaments.

Martials arts camp

What can I say but Magnitude’s Camps rock!! What does a day entail? Kids arrive slowly between 8 am and 9:30 am. They draw or play computer and board games.

At 9:30 am, kids are split into groups based on age and skill level. Taekwondo classes are taught until 12:00 pm by Certified Black Belts. New students are taught White belt curriculum. No experience or martial arts uniform is necessary, just comfortable clothing. (Snack time is at 10:30 am)

At noon, children break for lunch. We can heat up cold food in our kitchen. We start getting ready for our afternoon excursion at 12:45 pm. At 1 pm, we leave on one of our busses to one of many awesome kids’ destinations! Please check Camp Schedules.

We try to be back by 4:30 pm. Then it’s fun, fun, fun! We play indoor games like dodgeball, survivor, etc. while children are slowly picked up by 5:30 pm.
